The purpose of the Pinhoti Experience Foundation is to educate and empower individuals and communities through outdoor education, trail stewardship, and tourism advocacy along the Pinhoti Trail.
We provide in-person and digital learning experiences—including backpacking education, safety and preparedness training, school partnerships, and community events—that promote responsible outdoor recreation, trail sustainability, and the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace. Through hands-on trail maintenance and conservation efforts, we help protect the Pinhoti Trail while strengthening the communities it connects by supporting trail-based tourism and local economic impact.
The Pine Mountain Trail Association, Inc. (PMTA) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization ((IRS 509(a)(2) status). Donations made to the PMTA are fully tax deductible under Section 170.). The association was founded in 1975 by Mr. D. Neal Wickham of Columbus, Georgia. The purpose of this organization is to enhance, preserve and promote the Pine Mountain Trail and the connecting loop trails within FDR State Park .
Since 2012, Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy (CNPC) has been the official friends group and primary philanthropic partner of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA).
