SOPE CREEK - Best Places To Hike In Atlanta - Part 1

In this video, we take a short hike from the trailhead at Sope Creek down to the Historic Paper Mill that was burned down during the Civil War. Sope Creek provides an array of hiking trails that you can extend up to 8.5+ miles that connect to other scenic areas within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.  Sope Creek is a great place to explore when you can't make it to the North Georgia mountains. Definitely recommend getting to this area early as parking is limited and will get packed on the weekends!

This is a video about Johnson Ferry North within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Johnson Ferry North is one of the best places to hike in Atlanta and provides several amenities to those looking to rent a kayak, tube, stand up paddle board and get on the Chattahoochee River.  This hike is only 1.8 miles and provides very easy terrain to hike along the Chattahoochee River and is considered a wildlife viewing area. A few months ago, just north of this area, we saw a bald eagle flying overhead as we kayaked down the river.

INDIAN TRAIL EAST PALISADES - Best Places To Hike In Atlanta - Part 3

Indian Trail East Palisades is one of the best places to hike in Atlanta! This area is located within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area system and is by far one of the top places to hike within the system.  In this video, we visit the Indian Trail East Palisades and do a quick hike down to Whitewater Creek up to the overlook and then back to the main trailhead. This hike is family friendly, somewhat moderate in some areas with some steep inclines.

COLUMNS DRIVE - Best Places To Hike In Atlanta - Cochran Shoals - CRNRA - Part 4

Columns Drive is located within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area at Cochran Shoals and is one of the best places to hike in Atlanta. This area provides several options for hiking and a few of the trails connect with Sope Creek. On this hike we travel through a graveyard from the civil war era and hike along the connecting bike trails.  On this trail, you will encounter an abandoned gravesite from the civil war era which adds a spooky feel to this area. Due to the history of this area it is very likely that the area is haunted with ghosts from the past.

Akers Mill provides various types of terrain to hike and it is one of the best places to hike in Atlanta. If you can't head out to the North Georgia mountains, this trail provides both an aggressive hike along the rocky riverside of the Chattahoochee River as well as a peaceful stroll along shoals to watch Kayakers and Tubers make their way south.

GOLD BRANCH - Best Places To Hike In Atlanta, Georgia - Part 6

Gold Branch is one of the best places to hike in Atlanta, Georgia within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. In this video, we hike 3.2 miles counter clockwise around lake Bull Sluice. As you make your way to the right of the trail system, you will encounter old car wreckage. Do you know the history of this car? If so, please leave a comment down below.  This hike is moderate, dog friendly and provides an excellent trail that runs along Bull Sluice Lake. Parking is $5 and you can use The America The Beautiful annual pass to bypass the daily parking fee since Gold Branch is within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

Whitewater creek is one of the best places to hike in Atlanta, Georgia within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. This area is dog friendly and provides an extensive number of connecting trails that can extend your hike several miles within the East Palisades area.

PACES MILL - Best Places To Hike In Atlanta, Georgia - Part 8

If you are looking for a great short day hike in Atlanta, then Paces Mill is a great option with the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area to visit. In this video, we hike 2.5 miles round trip to the rocky cliff that provides an excellent view of Whitewater Creek in the East Palisades across the Chattahoochee River.

POWERS ISLAND - Best Places To Hike In Atlanta, Georgia - Part 9

Powers Island is located within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and is one of the best places to hike in Atlanta, Georgia.This is a 2.7 relatively easy to moderate hiking trail and is one of the less traveled hiking areas within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.On this trail you will cross an island, inlet and trail that will provide a hike along the river to a bamboo thicket at the northern end of the park.  This location also has a boat ramp and an NOC outfitter station for those looking to go tubing, kayaking and stand up paddling.

INTERSTATE NORTH - Best Places To Hike In Atlanta, Georgia - Part 10

Interstate North is part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and is one of the best places to hike in Atlanta, Georgia.  This is my go-to spot for exercising and hiking. There are so many trails to choose from that connect to Terrell Mill Creek, Columns Drive and a bike trail that connects with Sope Creek.

VICKERY CREEK - Best Places To Hike In Atlanta, Georgia - Part 11

Vickery Creek is located within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and is one of the best places to hike in Atlanta, Georgia. Vickery Creek provides an extensive number of connecting trails that can extend your hike. For this hike, we did the 4.7 mile hike starting at the trailhead on Riverside Road which provided a great view of the dam waterfall at Roswell Mill and then a nice hike which follows the loop around the edge of the park.
